whale watching

Here are some pics from the whale watching tour Andrea and I took this past weekend.
She didn't even know that we were going until that morning and the day ended up being perfect.

Sunfish - this fish can swim both vertically and horizontally

Northern Wright Whale Dolphins - these dolphins don't have a dorsal fin, they actually like to swim and play in the wake right along the bow (front) of the boat as we're going along

Humpback Whale - this whale named 'Big Fin' was 56 feet long and has lungs the size of 55 gallon tanks that allow it to stay under water for up to 25 minutes, the blowhole is on the left and the dorsal fin is on the right

This is the same whale showing here flukes just before diving under for more food, each whale has distinct markings on its flukes, similar to a person's fingerprints

Sea lions - these creatures seem to be thoroughly enjoying their roost on this buoy, you can see that one of them has several scars from a run in with a shark

we saw plenty more things, but i'll save those for another post
until then

cheers,
myronius
